Nakhon Phanom

Meaning city of mountains, Nakhon Phanom lies adjacent to the majestic Mekong River and is surrounded by jungle and mountains and an awe inspiring landscape, which is beautiful and naturally stunning.

 

 

Across the areas of the North East, you will find numerous national parks for forest trekking and in the Phu Wan Wildlife Park it is possible to see elephants, tigers, leopards, bears and monkeys, but you will have to venture very deep into the thick jungle, with the assistance of a professional guide.

 

 

Many local dialects, customs and of course some delicious Thai cuisine, can be found in the area and if you’re looking for an interesting night out, forget nightclubbing, as here its more about local folk dancing, such as the Sri Kotrabun and the Sek-Ten-Sak which are performed on special occasions. If you arrive during the Bai-Sri-Su-Kwan festival, it is likely that you will be offered some of the home-made local brew, which is extremely potent………….You heard it here first.

 

 

Other areas in the North East such as Nong Khai, offer the visitor such splendors as the Jorm Manee Beach which is part of the Mekong and attracts many tourists during April. The friendship bridge, which spans the Mekong, the Tobacco villages, waterfalls, wild animals, the great Issan food and an array wonderful temples where the monks, nuns and pilgrims come to meditate.
