Phang-nga
Phang-nga is approx 780km South West from Bangkok. Phang-nga is only about an hour away from Phuket, by coach or car, and is easily accessible if flying down from Bangkok.
The outer islands of Phang Nga are considered to be one of the world's best scuba diving grounds. A popular choice of activity are Liveaboard diving excursions to the Similan Islands, home of the most beautiful and colorful soft corals in the world plus a whole range of coral fish, manta rays and other exotic marine animals.
The remote Surin Islands are also a marine national park that consists of 5 islands which are also superb scuba diving sites with a pristine marine ecosystem. The surrounding sea offers an outstanding array of soft corals and frequent sightings of rays and the elusive whale sharks.
There are some exquisite underwater grottos and swim through tunnels, which always add to the appeal for those looking to dive and have fun snorkeling.
Phang-nga also has a fantastic assortment of limestone cliffs and islands that have distinct rock formations, which attract a steady stream of international climbers, looking for that next buzz of adrenalin. One of these famous limestone cliff areas is Koh Tapu ( Nail Island ), which was made famous from the James Bond film “The man with the Golden Gun” which sees a constant flock of tourists arriving daily with their cameras and not a gun in sight.
