Legalities
Embassies
For anybody looking to have a legal marriage in Thailand – You must visit yours
- All Embassies are located in Bangkok and you will have to go to yours (depending on nationality) to complete the specific forms relevant for your country of permanent residence.
- Most Embassies have a Ticket/Number procedure and you could be in and out within 30 minutes to 3 hours depending on when you arrive and how busy they are that day
- We seriously advise you are accompanied by one of our Thai2 agents or ask your Hotel/Resort if they provide a Translator to assist you with your visit to the Embassy, see Here2Help
- Everyone has to visit their respective Embassy and complete the relevant paper work before they can get legally married in Thailand. Once this is sorted, your Hotel/Resort will finalise the administration with the Amphur office, local to your chosen wedding venue
Documentation
- Check all of your legal docs are in order. Birth Certificate & Passport.
Divorcees
Prepare everything before you go, so that there are no hitches when you arrive
- If you are a Divorcee, you will need a signed affidavit from a registered solicitor in your own country, which proves that you are FREE to marry. This must be taken when you visit your respective Embassy in Bangkok
- Don't over look the point above, as the Authorities and Embassies in Thailand take this very seriously and will NOT provide you with the correct paper work which is required to legalise your wedding in Thailand.
Under 21 years old
If you are under 21 years old please remember the legal facts
- If you are under 21, you will need to ascertain the following specific documentation before you get to Thailand, otherwise you will not be able to legally marry.
- A letter from BOTH of your parents or guardians and a solicitor, stating that you have the consent to be legally married. See Here2Help

If you wish to have a gay or lesbian marriage ceremony please read below:
- We can help you organise a fabulous Gay/Lesbian Wedding ceremony that will be truly amazing. However it will NOT be considered legal in your own country or anywhere else in the world, due to international legislation. See Here2Help
